He who has tested the servant is the Most Merciful

Are you being tested in one way or another?

Relationship breakdowns, financial crisis, keep getting stuck in the same place, problems at work, problems at home, challenging behaviour with kids, the loss of motivation, the loss of willpower, health issues, stress, emotional breakdowns and the list goes on. The nature of life can be very thorny sometimes. Know that everyone goes through the same tribulations at some point in their lives. You’re not alone. This isn’t happening to you only. Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ says in the Qur’an “Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere, those who say, when afflicted with calamity: – To Allah We belong, and to Him is our return” (2:155)

Stop P-ing: making it Personal, Pervasive and Permanent. One of shaitan’s tactics is to personalise events and make them pervasive. So you think “Why me? Everyone else is having fun, why me?” Or you think “Nobody understands me” Know that everyone else is going through their own tests – you may not see them but it doesn’t mean they’ve got it easy. And seek out help – nobody understands me is sometimes the block we impose on ourselves.

Another one is the lack of foresight – you think it’s permanent and the situation will last forever. All you’ve ever known is this state of being, nothing else. You forget the good days of the past, you don’t remember who you once were and so you imagine the worst possible outcome in every situation because the misery is permanent. No, it’s NOT. Nothing is permanent and shall never be. Everything is temporary and everything is forever changing and evolving. Including you – who you were yesterday isn’t who you’re today and certainly not who you’ll be tomorrow.

Open up your heart. Put your hand on your chest and say “Allahu Akbar” and know that Allahسبحانه وتعالى doesn’t test to punish but perhaps He wants to hear your supplications, He سبحانه وتعالى wants to strengthen you from the inside, He سبحانه وتعالى is kindly asking you to assess your life and make some necessary changes for the ultimate success in the hereafter.

Know that Allah سبحانه وتعالى is on your side. Put your forehead on the ground, complain, vent it all out – make dua.
