Lecture 1: Inner Child, Subconcious Mind and Self-care
The first video lecture will cover the first three chapters of the BLOOM coursebook. You will learn about the importance of renewing intentions and beliefs, empowering the inner child and strategies for self-compassion.
Why renew intentions? In Islam, we believe actions are by intentions. The prophet saw said, “Every person will have only what they intended”. So, it’s very important that we constantly renew our intentions when taking actions to derive maximum benefit.
Second, this course is about child-raising by raising yourself first. As such, we will start off the course with your childhood. Most of us consider ourselves adults once we become a parent and yet hold onto the inner child when making parenting decisions and choices. That’s because everything we experienced as a child is still inside us, buried deep in our subconscious mind. And once a parent, we just pull them out and recycle them.
For example, you are getting ready to leave the house. Your 5-6-year-old choosing their own outfit deeply annoys you. It irritates you so much that you start shouting. Have you ever thought- why does a child choosing his/her own outfit bothers you? Most likely, you weren’t given the option of choosing your own outfit as a five-year-old and you can’t stand it when your child wants something you were not given in the first place.
If you want a change in your attitudes, if you want to respond and not react when handling emotional meltdowns, it’s important to get in touch with the inner child and empower her. We have to build up ourselves before we can build our children.
Third, once you build up yourself, you have to keep at it by charging your batteries on time.
Have heard the term you can’t serve from an empty cup? Self-care is important for mothers because THE URGE TO REACT CAN ONLY BE CONTROLLED IF YOU HAVE A TANKFUL OF LOVING FEELINGS YOURSELF. You have to DO MORE OF WHAT WILL GIVE YOU COMFORT AND SUPPORT.
In this session, you will learn how to NURTURE yourself AND NOT FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT.
