Session four of the course will cover chapters eight, nine and ten. We will cover the following topics

• Teaching life-skills
• Focusing on character-building
• Teaching academics: choosing the right materials
• Goal setting as a homeschooling mother

When we start homeschooling, we almost exclusively think about teaching academic subjects. However, homeschooling isn’t schooling at home. It is a lifestyle and as such you have to put a system in place where everyone should contribute towards running a household inshaAllah. We should focus on character-building first, creating habits like kindness, gratitude, punctuality, thoroughness- that will save all mothers time and effort whilst teaching the academic subject.

Secondly, we should focus on life-skills and try to incorporate these into our curriculum whenever and wherever we can inshaAllah. At home, children should help with cooking, cleaning, washing-up and putting laundry away etc. Outside the home, we can arrange some classes where they can learn sewing, fixing a bike, sports c or painting/constructing- any skill that will help them succeed in the future.

Thirdly, what stresses most parents is teaching academic school subjects. This part will guide you step by step in how to choose the right curriculum that suits your family, what subjects to focus on if you can’t cover all school subjects, how to prioritize and organize your homeschool schedule. It provides tips on where to find affordable resources or how you can present them to your children in an organized manner.

If we fail to plan, we are planning to fail. In the last part, we will talk about planning and how to set goals as a homeschooling mother. It gives you ideas on simple, measurable and realistic homeschool goals for children of various ages inshaAllah.
